Seasonal Home Maintenance Checklist

We’ve compiled a list of seasonal maintenance chores that may help reduce the need to file a claim and keep your home in top shape all year long.

Winter

  • Clean and cover outdoor furniture

  • Inspect weather stripping near external doors

  • Check gutters for leftover autumn debris or ice

  • Clean sediment in and around showerheads and faucets

  • Clean behind your stove and refrigerator

  • Deep clean oven and range hood

  • Vaccuum refrigerator coils

  • Clean and/or replace your dryer vent

  • Inspect caulking in bathrooms

  • Test and clean sump pump

  • Inspect your fire extinguisher, or take to your nearest fire department for inspection

  • Put frost covers on outside water spickets and maintain heat in your home when leaving for an extended period of time.

Spring

  • Repair damaged window screens

  • clean gutters, downspouts

  • Inspect lawn spinklers valves and lines

  • Inspect basement or crawlspace for leaks

  • Trim trees and shrubs away from your house (at least 3-5 feet)

  • Pressure wash

  • Reseal decks

  • Have your air conditioner serviced

  • Service garage door, chain and hinges with oil

  • Replace smoke detector batteries

Summer

  • Defrost freezer(s) and deep clean refrigerator

  • Test GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) outlets

  • Clean outdoor grill

  • Inspect driveway and foundation for cracks

  • Clear area around heating and cooling units

  • Secure loose hardware around doors and windows

  • Flush hotwater heater to remove sediment

  • Relocate wood piles 30 feet from any structures

  • Remove and dispose of vegetation under decks

  • Clear window screens and attic vents

Fall

  • Disconnect and store outdoor hose

  • Trim vegetation away from structures

  • Inspect roof for damaged shingles

  • Inspect caulking around windows

  • Have fireplace or chimney cleaned and serviced

  • Clear gutters of debris and check for cracks
