Oregon. It's who we are.
Not Just Any Insurance Company
Founded in McMinnville, Oregon in 1894 by a close group of business owners, Oregon Mutual remains the oldest, independent, mutual insurance company west of the Mississippi. 2019 marked 125 years of serving your personal, commercial, and agricultural needs throughout Oregon, Washington, California and Idaho. Unlike some insurance companies, Oregon Mutual does not answer to institutional investors. We’re in this business for you. We have consistently demonstrated stability, management expertise, and the ability to meet financial obligations. The Oregon Mutual Group has earned the A-(Excellent) financial strength rating from the A.M. Best Company since 1990. As of December 2019, the Oregon Mutual Group has also received an A- (Excellent) with stable outlook financial strength rating from the Kroll Bond Rating Agency (KBRA). Some other insurance companies refer to their customers only as policyholders. At Oregon Mutual, we refer to our policyholders as members, because it wouldn’t feel right to refer to them in any other way. If you are not yet a member of Oregon Mutual, thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. Read about our coverages to discover more about the range of products and policies we offer.

125 Years of History
Thirty-five years after Oregon became a state, Oregon Mutual Insurance Company was founded by a local group concerned about the affordability of insurance. They wanted their own company, one that understood the needs of the local people in the West. “Insurance of the people, by the people and for the people” was their motto. They organized a “Mutual” insurance company based on the concept that members needs come first.
As an Oregon Mutual policyholder, you have an ownership stake in the company and can be assured that your company has your interests and welfare first in mind. We are not a stock company who raises capital by selling stock so we don’t answer to shareholders, we answer to our members. Oregon Mutual does not have market and investor pressure to maximize profits, which helps us keep our rates as low as possible. Our foremost responsibility is to serve our policyholders. It's who we are.
